Knutson Construction Services
Commercial New Construction

The design merges a stimulating exterior with a delightful and thrilling interior. There were three important factors the interiors were based upon:

  1. To work seamlessly with the exterior by repeating the design and materials the exterior stone was applied on and behind the reception desk; and design features, such as the “wing walls” were used to create a cozy reception alcove.
  2. To showcase the workmanship, creativity, product knowledge, etc. that Knutson provides to their clients, a custom concrete sink in one of the restrooms; a fun, colorful workroom floor; and conference room with high-tech, interactive technology.
  3. To reflect Knutson’s image of integrity, steadfastness, innovation, and pride, a careful and thoughtful selection of materials, finishes, and products enhanced this company's branding. Why not let the building and interiors "say" what Knutson is all about before one meets a member of the company?!

RCTC Heintz Center
Commercial Remodel

Design Goals for the interior renovation of this Technical College:

  1. Deinstitutionalize the space by adding curvilinear design aspects with color, texture and pattern added to walls, flooring, and ceilings.
  2. Create a Community where students & professors are comfortable in their environment. Corridor seating, lounges, and a Cyber Café were added to encourage students to stay, study, interact, and relax.
  3. Create Continuity, not only from a design standpoint (repetition of color, etc.), but also from a functional and maintenance point-of-view (the same tile and carpeting is used throughout the campus).
  4. Present RCTC as a High Tech Facility...not only does it look that way, but it is that way.
  5. Bring the building into the next generation. No longer are the corridors dark or the restrooms inadequate.

Kruckeberg
Residential New Construction

The owners of this Southern Minnesota home asked for assistance in enhancing incomplete architectural plans. This was accomplished by redesigning of some of the shapes and sizes of rooms and integrating features such as a barrel vault in the entry and faux beams in the great room. Custom touches (a two-story kitchen hood, a beautiful bombe chest vanity), integration of unique items (a secret doorway, a concrete bathroom sink, a metal staircase revealing another room, a curvy doorway), and a lower level complete with a theatre and billiards room, a great room with a pop-up TV cabinet, and an integrated media system are design choices that enhance spaces instep with their lifestyle.

This project is an excellent example of collaboration between Client, Designer, and Contractor – thinking “outside the box” to produce a unique environment to meet specific goals.
