Pre-Design
and Programming
This phase of designing for Interior layout, theme,
and ambiance defines the parameters of the project,
scope of services, and establishes a contractual
agreement. Through interviewing, questionnaires,
and/or observation, this step defines the Client’s
goals and determines needs.
Schematic Design
This phase is a
broad-brush overview of all aspects of the project
in order to:
Establish the design concept
Plan
spaces
Analyze budget
Design preliminary
floor plans
Design Furniture plans
Determine
elevations
Determine reflected ceiling
plans
Choose fabric and furnishings
Establish
lighting needs
Design Development
Once a conceptual design and budget is established
the interior designer refines and develops such
items as: Floor plans with FF&E (Furnishings,
Fixtures, & Equipment) and lighting layouts,
elevations, and detail drawings.
Contract Documents
Development of all documentation for construction
of the design is included in this phase. These
include: Architectural and Interior Design drawings,
FF&E specifications, Bidding documents, and
Finish Schedule.
Contract Administration
This phase is the final step in the execution of
the design of the project: development and supervision
of Construction & Installation, review of shop
drawings, and selection of colors and finishes.
